Obituary for Mary Lou Burns (Peterson)

Mary Lou Burns

It is with heavy hearts that the family of Mary Lou Burns announces her passing, on Thursday June 8, at Sensenbrenner Hospital. Mary Lou was born on her grandparents’ farm in Upper Musquodoboit, Nova Scotia on April 12, 1939 to George and Grace Peterson (nee Dean). She spent her early years in Pickle Crow, Ontario where her father was a gold miner. The family moved to Timmins, Ontario in 1950 and it was there that Mary Lou met her husband Albert. The couple moved to Kapuskasing in 1958 raising six children: Jim (Sonja), Stephen, Tom, Leslie (Louis), Dana and Sara (Keith). She was the beloved Nanna of eleven grandchildren: Sam, Jacob, Harry, Emily, Taylor, Adam, William, Hayden, Grace, Maeve and Callum. She is also survived by one brother Ron (Simone) of Timmins. Mary Lou always led by example; her generous nature, the grace with which she led her life and the joy she found in her family and friends taught us all what really matters in life. The family welcomes visitors to Guenette Funeral Home on Sunday, June 11 from 7 to 9 p.m. to share their stories and memories. Funeral service will be held on Monday, June 12 at 10:00 a.m. at the Kapuskasing Community Church with Reverend James Ko officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Kapuskasing Community Church or the Canadian Red Cross would be greatly appreciated.

It is good for our hearts to be strengthened by grace (Hebrews 13:9)
