Obituary for Antoni "Tony" Leniuk

Antoni "Tony" Leniuk
It is both with great sadness and happiness that we inform you of the passing of a wonderful Father and inspiring role model for his entire family. We are truly sad to lose such an important figure in our lives but happy as well for the life he led. Tony Leniuk, born 1924 in Tiaziv, Ukraine emigrated to Canada in 1947 and established himself as a master lumberman in Kapuskasing, Ontario. From early days in the woods with a team of horses to pull out the days’ cut, to harvesting trees on automated equipment, he worked hard every day to give his children the chance at a better future and for that we are eternally grateful. ‘Tony’ as his friends knew him was active in the community in his early years in Kap through coaching hockey and lacrosse – early mornings on an outdoor rink, evenings at the old arena and supporting his children in any way possible, always there for us no matter the circumstance – true unconditional love. We should also mention that his specialty dishes, cabbage rolls and perogies, were amazingly delicious and a point of many sibling spats as to who would get leftovers to bring home! Tony eventually retired and to our surprise found two new passions in his life, curling and golf. He made friends on the golf course and at the curling club and continually worked on his game(s), often scoring better than his kids’ who would golf with him any chance they could get. We will miss him deeply and we all consider ourselves truly blessed that through divine interventions we may not ever understand, Tony was our Father.
He is survived by his loving children, Barbara (Don Arsenault) of Kapuskasing, Nick (Wendy Swain) of Peterborough, Victor of Nassau, Bahamas, Bob (MaryAnn DeJong) of Dacula, Georgia and Tina (Tim Wright) of Horsham, West Sussex, UK and their Mother, Emma Dozois of Kapuskasing. In addition, Tony is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great-grand children, all of whom he loved, held, hugged and nurtured in his old school ways. He lived over 92 years and somehow to us that does not seem long enough. Rest in peace Dad, you deserve it.
Resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 22 from 7 – 9 p.m. A family gathering to celebrate a life well lived will be held on Thursday at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Multiple Sclerosis Association of Canada or the Huntington Society of Canada would be greatly appreciated.
