Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Breanna Plourde on Tuesday, February 4, 2020 at the age of 27. Breanna courageously fought a battle against osteosarcoma. She is survived by her loving parents, Christine and Dave; her brother, Brandon (Jaimee); her boyfriend, Jamie Girouard; her grandparents: Louise and Manfred Schmidt, Edith and the late Edgar Plourde; her aunts and uncles: Ralph Schmidt (Sylvie), Anne-Marie Popadynetz (Tony), Monique Plourde, Suzanne Plourde-Doran (Patrick), Lynne Plourde-Kelly (Robert) and Celine Demeules (Mike); as well as numerous cousins and friends.

Breanna served as coordinator for Healthy Kids Kapuskasing. She was a graduate from the Health Sciences Program at Western University and the Nursing Program at Nipissing University, where she interned at the Hospital for Sick Children. She loved music, cooking, figure skating, being outdoors and most of all, she loved spending time with children, friends and family. Breanna was a world traveler; notably, she volunteered in Africa at an AIDS clinic, and in Thailand at an orphanage. She was an advocate for Kapuskasing and was planning on settling here. She strived to make the world and Kapuskasing a better place by assisting children in any way possible.

Breanna will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Friday, February 7th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 8th at Immaculate Conception church at 2:00 p.m. with Father Sébastien Groleau officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Northern Corridor Children’s Foundation would be greatly appreciated. ©

Breanna a lutté courageusement contre l’ostéosarcome.

Breanna was an absolute joy to teach for all those years so long ago- she was every coaches dream student. She loved the ice and loved to skate! Her presence was positive and fun-each and every time. She also helped out with the younger skaters through the CanSkate programs. I can still see her big blue eyes, her big smile, and her big laugh! That little sweet girl on the ice became a phenomenal and accomplished young woman. It is just heartbreaking. I send nothing but love to her friends and family, and most of all Christine, Dave, and Brandon.

I never had the privilege of knowing Breanna but she did make a huge impact on my daughter, Jenna's, life. I see here smiling face all over Jenna's room and I hear wonderful stories of their freindship. She packed so much into a much too short life. I pray for the family & freinds that they may have strength in such a extremely difficult time. Sometimes there are simply no words to express my sorrow.

Purely by happenstance, Courtney met Breanna at the University of Western Ontario -- and by extension, the entire Price family got to know her when she visited us in Toronto (in lieu of trekking back those 9 long hours to Kapuskasing!!). And how fortunate we were! Breanna was a beautiful girl, both inside and out. A small-town girl with a genuine kind soul that she brought with her to the big city. It seems just like yesterday when we sat in the nose-bleed seats at the Western University auditorium and cheered and hooted as our girls walked across the stage to receive their Health Sciences degrees (with distinction!). What a proud moment, with so many successes ahead of them. It breaks our hearts that Breanna has passed so young but she accomplished so much in her short life and left us and many others with lasting memories. Our deepest condolences to the entire Plourde family.
