Obituary for / Nécrologie pour Carolyn Towne
We regret to announce the death of Carolyn Towne, at the age of 98 years, on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at North Centennial Manor. Carolyn was an active member of the Catholic Women's League. She was also a past member of the Golden Age Club and the Kinette Club of Kapuskasing. She was an avid reader who enjoyed keeping up with pen pals, solving crossword puzzles, playing bridge and participating in bible study.
Carolyn loved the written word and was happiest when working as a journalist for the Northern Times, penning the column ‘Talk Around Towne’. She was immensely interested in politics and enjoyed watching CNN. She was well known for her feisty wit and dry sense of humour. Carolyn was a proud East Coaster from New Waterford, Nova Scotia, who never lost her love of the ocean, nor ever tired of sharing stories from down home.
Carolyn is survived by her sons: Mike Towne (Marg Towne) of Kingsville, and Thomas Towne (Kim Poleyko Towne) of Kapuskasing; six grandchildren: Jaye Sunsurn, Kathleen Towne (Brian Small), Christopher Towne (Natalie Towne), Hilary Towne McGillivray (Jamie McGillivray), Alan Towne (Danielle Towne),
Lauren Towne (Graeme Poechman); seven great grandchildren: Zack, Ava, Joshua, Spencer, Evan, Gabriel and Julian; as well as her daughter-in-law, Edna Towne of Windsor.
Carolyn was predeceased by her husband, Jerry; two sons: Patrick Towne and Robert Towne; her daughter, Rev. Jeralyn Towne; her granddaughter, Kate Towne; and one brother, Walter Johnston.
The funeral service will be held at a later date.
The family would greatly appreciate donations to the Good Shepherd Ministries or the Kapuskasing Food Bank as expressions of sympathy. The family would also like to recognize and thank the staff at North Centennial Manor for their exceptional care and support. ©

Elle était également une ancienne membre du Club de l’âge d’or et du Club Kinette de Kapuskasing. Carolyn était une lectrice assidue qui aimait maintenir contact avec ses correspondants; résoudre des mots croisés; jouer au bridge; et participer à l’étude de la Bible.
Carolyn aimait bien la parole écrite; elle fut des plus heureuse lorsqu’elle a œuvré comme journaliste pour le compte du Northern Times, rédigeant la chronique ‘Talk Around Towne’. Elle s’intéressait énormément aux questions politiques et jouissait des émissions de CNN. Carolyn était bien connue pour son esprit fougueux et son sens d’humour acerbe. Carolyn était fière d’être originaire de New Waterford, sur la côte Est de la Nouvelle-Écosse; elle n’a jamais perdu son amour de l’océan, ni se lasser de partager des anecdotes de ses antécédents.
