Obituary for / Nécrologie pour Don Grant
Donald "Don" Grant, died on December 8, 2022, in his 89th year, at Sensenbrenner Hospital, Kapuskasing, Ontario.
Dad was born and raised in Bowmanville, Ontario. He is survived by his much-loved wife of nearly 70 years, Jean (nee Watling); his children Michael, Deborah and Kathrine (Dan). Grandpa will be greatly missed by grandchildren Jason (Shauna), Sean (Chantal), Christine, Joseph, Bradley and Brian; as well as eight great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family and friends.
Don was predeceased by his parents, Ross and Evelyn (Dickinson) Grant; and older siblings Shirley (Bill), Murray (Ruth), Audrey (Bob), Rex (Ruth), and Betty (Bert).
Dad worked his entire career as an electrician at the Spruce Falls paper mill. He loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter and fisherman. Every year, Don looked forward to the deer hunt on Manitoulin Island. Dad was a true jack of all trades. His woodworking skills were impressive, and his memory will live on in the beautiful clocks, blanket boxes and other items that he crafted over the years. Dad was a master gardener and loved sharing the garden's bounty with his neighbours. He passed on that love of growing to his children and his grandchildren.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Plamondon and all the nurses and other staff who cared for Dad during the past few months.
Cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral service, as per Don’s wishes. Friends are welcome to visit Mom at home, to offer their condolences. A celebration of life is planned for late spring 2023 on Manitoulin Island.
Memorial donations should be directed to the Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation in Kapuskasing or to the charity of your choice.

Papa est né et a grandi à Bowmanville, Ontario. Don laisse dans le deuil son épouse bien-aimée depuis près de 70 ans, Jean (née Watling); ses enfants Michael, Deborah et Kathrine (Dan). Grand-papa manquera grandement à ses petits-enfants : Jason (Shauna), Sean (Chantal), Christine, Joseph, Bradley et Brian; de même que ses huit arrière-petits-enfants; ainsi que plusieurs nièces et neveux, sa famille élargie et ses amis.
Don fut prédécédé par ses parents, Ross et Evelyn (Dickinson) Grant; ainsi que ses sœurs et frères aînés : Shirley (Bill), Murray (Ruth), Audrey (Bob), Rex (Ruth) et Betty (Bert).
Papa a travaillé pendant toute sa carrière comme électricien à l’usine de papier Spruce Falls. Don aimait le plein air; il était un grand amateur de la chasse et la pêche. Chaque année, Don anticipait la chasse au chevreuil sur l’île Manitoulin. Papa était vraiment propre à tous les métiers. Ses talents de menuisier étaient impressionnants, et son souvenir durera dans ses magnifiques œuvres telles les horloges, coffres de literie, et autres articles qu’il a fabriqués au fil des ans. Papa était un maître jardinier qui aimait partager les fruits de son jardin avec ses voisins. Don a transmis cet amour du jardinage à ses enfants et petits-enfants.
Un merci du fond de notre cœur au Dr Plamondon, ainsi que tout le personnel de soins infirmiers et autres gens qui ont prodigué des soins à Papa au cours des derniers mois.
La crémation a eu lieu et il n’y aura pas de service funéraire, conformément aux désirs de Don. Les amis sont bienvenus de visiter Maman à domicile, afin d’offrir leurs condoléances. On planifie une célébration de vie vers la fin du printemps 2023, sur l’île Manitoulin.
