Nous regrettons de vous annoncer le décès d’Edmond Ward survenue paisiblement, le vendredi 17 août, 2018, à l’Hôpital de Smooth Rock Falls. Il était âgé de 96 ans.
Né le 27 octobre 1921 à Saint Isidore, NB, il était le fils d’Alexandre Ward et Catherine Losier. Il n’a jamais connu sa mère qui est décédée 5 mois après sa naissance. Sa sœur aînée Yvonne et lui habitèrent d’abord avec leurs grands-parents Ward et ensuite chez les grands-parents Losier, jusqu’aux deuxième noces de leur père en 1924.
Très jeune Edmond a suivi son père Alex dans les camps de bûcheron, il fut ensuite homme à tout faire pour le père Daigle à la paroisse Christ Roi d’Allardville et de service dans les Forces armées canadiennes.
Tout juste sorti de l’armée, le 11 juin 1945, il épousa Dorina Matte d’Allardville et ensemble ils eurent 8 enfants.
En 1958, ils déménagèrent leur famille à Kapuskasing, où il fut bûcheron, contracteur, concierge et entrepreneur, exerçant souvent plus d’un métier à la fois pour subvenir aux besoins de sa grande famille.
Il avait un attachement véritable à la forêt. A partir de son métier de bûcheron (côté Ward) et de ses antécédents de faiseur de sirop d’érable (côté Losier) en passant par la cueillette de bleuets à 3 cents la livre, et de pommes l’automne, il avait toujours une bonne raison pour monter dans le bois.
Il aimait chanter, danser, voyager et raconter des histoires. C’était un homme fort et courageux qui a su garder sa bonne humeur jusqu’aux derniers moments.
Edmond laisse dans le deuil ses enfants, Lina (Ron) Philippon de Sarnia, Yvette (Robert Levasseur) de Kapuskasing, Edmonde (feu Pierre Guindon) de Sarnia, Yvon (Lise) de Smooth Rock Falls, Lucienne (Brad) Roman de Calgary et Robert (Sandra) de Toronto, sa bru Pauline Audette de Kapuskasing.
Il laisse aussi dans le deuil son frère, Jim (Irène) Ward d’Allardville, NB, et plusieurs beaux-frères et belles-sœurs; Léona Noël, Fred Matte de Bathurst, Marguerite Ferron de Lamèque, Martin Lanteigne de Ste Catherine, Alcide Lanteigne d’Allardville et Albert Dosmann de Cacouna.
Edmond quitte aussi ses petits-enfants Marc Philippon de London, Carole Wettergreen de Sarnia, Natalie Boudreau de Kapuskasing, Alain Guindon de London, Stéphane Ward de Kapuskasing, Vicky Ward de Rockland, Lynn Ward de Gatineau, Kim Ward de Moncton, Jason Ward de Smooth Rock Falls, Lindsey Roman de Calgary, Jeffrey Ward de Toronto, Julie Audette de Kapuskasing et Stephen Norman de Toronto.
Il était également arrière-grand-père de 13 enfants, Nathan, Sarah, Mélissa, Véronic, Adelia, Abigail, Jaimie, Caleb, Gabriel, Mélodie, Brielle, Maeve et Carter. Il laisse aussi de nombreux neveux et nièces.
Il fut prédécédé par son épouse Dorina (Matte) en 1966, son fils ainé Paul en 2011, sa fille Bertha en 1959, sa petite fille Elyse Norman, sa soeur Yvonne LeBouthillier de Bas Caraquet, son frère Ernest d’Allardville, ainsi que ses parents.
Edmond Ward reposera au Salon Funéraire Guenette le mercredi 22 août de 19 h à 21h et jeudi à partir de 9h00 suivi par la célébration eucharistique en l’église Immaculée-Conception à 10h30 avec le Père Gérald Chalifoux comme célébrant. L'inhumation suivra au cimetière de Brunetville. Nous désirons remercier le personnel de l’Hôpital de Smooth Rock Falls pour les soins de fin de vie exceptionnels. Nous sommes aussi très reconnaissants à Yvon et Lise Ward, et Yvette et Robert Levasseur, d’avoir accompagné papa affectueusement jusqu’au bout.

We regret to announce the death of Edmond Ward, 96, peacefully, on Friday, August 17 2018, at Smooth Rock Falls Hospital.
Born October 27, 1921 at Saint Isidore, N.B., he was the son of Alexandre Ward and Catherine Losier. He never really knew his mother who passed away 5 months after his birth. His older sister Yvonne and Edmond lived with their Ward grandparents, then with their Losier grandparents, until their father remarried in 1924.
At a very young age, Edmond followed his father Alex to lumber camps, then worked as jack of all trades for Father Daigle at the Christ Roi parish in Allardville, and served in the Canadian armed forces.
Shortly after leaving the army, he married Dorina Matte of Allardville, on June 11, 1945. Together, they had 8 children.
In 1958, they moved their family to Kapuskasing, where he was a lumberjack, contractor, janitor and entrepreneur, often working more than one job at a time to meet the needs of his large family.
Edmond had real attachment to the forest. From his work as a lumberjack (on the Ward side) and his background as a producer of maple syrup (on the Losier side), and incidental work picking blueberries at 3 cents a pound, and apples in the fall, he always had a good reason to head into the bush.
Edmond enjoyed singing, dancing, travelling, and storytelling. He was a strong and courageous man who maintained his good humour up to the very end.
Edmond is survived by his children Lina (Ron) Philippon of Sarnia, Yvette (Robert Levasseur) of Kapuskasing, Edmonde (late Pierre Guindon) of Sarnia, Yvon (Lise) of Smooth Rock Falls, Lucienne (Brad) Roman of Calgary and Robert (Sandra) of Toronto, and his daughter-in-law Pauline Audette of Kapuskasing.
He is survived also by his brother Jim (Irène) Ward of Allardville, N.B., and many in-laws: Léona Noël, Fred Matte of Bathurst, Marguerite Ferron of Lamèque, Martin Lanteigne of Ste Catherine, Alcide Lanteigne of Allardville and Albert Dosmann of Cacouna.
Edmond also leaves behind his grandchildren Marc Philippon of London, Carole Wettergreen of Sarnia, Natalie Boudreau of Kapuskasing, Alain Guindon of London, Stéphane Ward of Kapuskasing, Vicky Ward of Rockland, Lynn Ward of Gatineau, Kim Ward of Moncton, Jason Ward of Smooth Rock Falls, Lindsey Roman of Calgary, Jeffrey Ward of Toronto, Julie Audette of Kapuskasing and Stephen Norman of Toronto.
Edmond was the great-grandfather of 13 children: Nathan, Sarah, Mélissa, Véronic, Adelia, Abigail, Jaimie, Caleb, Gabriel, Mélodie, Brielle, Maeve and Carter. In addition, he leaves behind numerous nephews and nieces.
Edmond was predeceased by his wife Dorina (Matte) 1966, his oldest son Paul in 2011, his daughter Bertha in 1959, and granddaughter Elyse Norman; his sister Yvonne LeBouthillier of Bas Caraquet, his brother Ernest of Allardville, as well as his parents.
Edmond Ward will rest at Guenette Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 22, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Thursday beginning at 9:00 a.m. followed by the funeral service at Immaculée-Conception church at 10:30 a.m., with Father Gérald Chalifoux officiating. Burial to follow at the Brunetville Cemetery. We wish to thank the staff of Smooth Rock Falls Hospital for providing exceptional end of life care. We are very grateful also to Yvon and Lise Ward, as well as Yvette and Robert Levasseur, who accompanied dad lovingly until the very end.
