I have such fond memories of Trudie and was fortunate that our paths crossed twice. As an alto in the K.D.H.S. choir, I quickly learned that if I needed help mastering a new tune, all would go well if I stood near Trudie. She was an absolute marvel. There is a term "old head on young shoulders" and that aptly describes her. So much talent and enthusiasm for life. A couple years after I married and was teaching at Dresden Area Central School my principal relayed some delightful information. A new teacher had been hired for grade seven/ rotary music and it was a former Kap resident I probably knew! The "Trudie' part baffled me for a few seconds as she had always been Gertrude to me. I have pleasant recollections of sharing a family Thanksgiving dinner with her at our new home. When Trudie earned her Master's degree, Gord and I were invited to the celebration. Ted Jewell (my hero) was to attend. Unfortunately, we had already committed to other plans. This still saddens me. Friends will remember that long, purposeful stride of hers. Things to do, no time to waste! I smile when I remember the time she and I decided to diet together. I kept a bathroom scale under my desk and she would come in for our daily "weigh ins." This project didn't last long and, now looking back with the wisdom of age, it wasn't even needed. Trudie's stay in Dresden was brief and we lost touch. A few years ago my close Kap buddies and I learned she was very ill. Efforts to contact her were unsuccessful. And now here we are........... A few months ago my dear husband passed away. He loved to sing in our church choir but had no training in reading music. Just stand close to Trudie now, Gordon, and she'll help you with the tune. To Trudie's family and friends I send my heartfelt condolences. With sympathy and understanding, Tanya (Aberhart) Hardy Dresden, ON

Gertrude and I were in the same classes from grade nine onwards. We sang in the Barb Beckett choir. She was a talented organ student of T.K. Jewell and organist at St. Patrick’s. We both sang (ok . . . she organized it!) in a folk group “Jessie’s Pals” for a Blue and Gold talent show. Talented and persevering, she could also laugh. Being with her brought out the best in others. What a gift.
I regret her long illness and rejoice in the Resurrection.
My sympathy to all.
