Nous regrettons de vous annoncer le décès de Gérald « Gerry » Chartrand le mercredi 22 mai à l'Hôpital Sensenbrenner à l'âge de 83 ans. Il fut membre des Chevaliers de Colomb et les Alcooliques Anonymes. Il a travaillé au-delà de 33 ans au gouvernement fédéral à titre de concierge au bureau de poste. Il était un père et grand-père dévoué et généreux, un homme pieux qui récitait son chapelet et allait à la messe chaque jour. Il aimait aller au café avec ses amis au McDo, se promener en campagne, miser sur des billets de loterie, encourager les Canadiens de Montréal, travailler du bois et il était très passionné du jardinage. Il laisse dans le deuil son épouse Irène, ses enfants, Estelle Rivet (André) de North Bay, Raymond (Gaetanne) de Kapuskasing et Chantal Chartrand de Thunder Bay, cinq petits-enfants, Mario, Julie, Alain, Alexa et Benjamin, six arrière-petits-enfants, Jackson, Danica, Skylar, Illianna, Carter et Wesley, ainsi que ses deux frères : Robert (Jane) de la Floride, Gilles (Denise) de Cochrane et une soeur, Thérèse Chartrand d'Ottawa, un beau-frère, Renald Chartrand d’Ottawa. Il fut prédécédé par sa fille Denise, un petit-fils, Luc, deux frères, Fernand et Lionel, une soeur, Rita Chartrand. La célébration eucharistique aura lieu le mardi 28 mai en l'église Immaculée-Conception à 10h30 avec le Père Gérald Chalifoux comme célébrant. Comme témoignage de sympathie, la famille sera reconnaissante des dons à l'Hôpital Sensenbrenner pour l’achat d’un tomodensitomètre. ©

We regret to announce the death of Gérald “Gerry” Chartrand on Wednesday, May 22 at Sensenbrenner Hospital at the age of 83. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Alcoholics Anonymous. He worked more than 33 years for the federal government as a custodian for Canada Post. He was a devoted and generous father and grandfather. He was a pious man who recited the rosary and went to mass every day. He enjoyed going for coffee with his friends at McDonald’s, visiting the countryside, taking a chance on lottery tickets, remaining a loyal fan of the Montreal Canadiens, woodworking and being a passionate gardener. He is survived by his wife Irene; his children: Estelle Rivet (André) of North Bay, Raymond (Gaetanne) of Kapuskasing and Chantal Chartrand of Thunder Bay; five grandchildren: Mario, Julie, Alain, Alexa and Benjamin; six great-grandchildren: Jackson, Danica, Skylar, Illianna, Carter and Wesley; as well as his two brothers: Robert (Jane) of Florida, Gilles (Denise) of Cochrane; one sister Thérèse Chartrand of Ottawa, one brother-in-law, Renald Chartrand of Ottawa. He was predeceased by his daughter Denise; one grandson Luc; two brothers: Fernand and Lionel; and one sister, Rita Chartrand. A celebration of the Eucharist will take place on Tuesday, May 28 at Immaculée-Conception church at 10:30 a.m. with Father Gérald Chalifoux officiating. As expressions of sympathy, the family would be grateful for donations to Sensenbrenner Hospital for the purchase of a CT scanner. ©
