We regret to announce the death of Herbert Schmidt on Monday, May 23, 2011 at the Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing at the age of 85. He enjoyed swimming, watching the Kapuskasing Flyers hockey team, coin collecting, stamp collecting, spending time with his family and meeting people and sharing stories. In his earlier years he enjoyed managing the Olympia soccer club in Timmins, fishing and ballroom dancing with Wilma. He retired from Spruce Falls, Woodlands Department after many years of service. He is survived by his brother Manfred Schmidt husband of Louise, a nephew Ralph Schmidt husband of Sylvie, a niece, Christine Plourde wife of David, five great nieces and nephews, Tiffany, Dustin, Nicholas, Breanna and Brandon all of Kapuskasing, as well as many nieces and nephews in Germany. He was predeceased by his wife, Wilma, two brothers, Heinz and Wilhelm, two sisters, Annie and Agathe. A private funeral service will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Kapswim or the War Amps would be greatly appreciated.
