We regret to announce the sudden passing of John Ballantyne on Wednesday, February 6th, 2019 at the Sensenbrenner Hospital at the age of 71. John was a production planner at Tembec Spruce Falls, retiring in 2010.

John is survived by his loving wife Jennifer (Nordahl), his children, Colin (Bianca Mercuri) of Toronto, Ryan of North Bay and Andrew (Lynne Boudreau) of Ottawa, his siblings, Anne Gauld (Ken) of Kapuskasing and Kate Ballantyne of Williams Lake, B.C., as well as seven grandchildren, Emily, Hanna, Jack, Molly, Sarah, Quinn and Kaia.

John was happiest spending time with his grandchildren ensuring they had plenty of treats to snack on. John loved being out on the water fishing at Remi Lake and Opasatika Lake with family, friends and always looked forward playing to bridge and getting in a game of cribbage whenever he could. John enjoyed hunting and spending time at the hunting camp in Reesor ensuring the crew was well fed, spending more time in the kitchen cooking than hunting.

John was a passionate sports fan from his high school days playing football to curling up to the week of his passing. John represented Northern Ontario at the 1978 Brier, also playing in the Pepsi Juniors and Seagram’s Mixed alongside his wife Jennifer in 1973. John was a staple in the community from coaching his son’s baseball teams to cheering them on at the Sports Palace.

John was a loving, compassionate, caring and helpful individual who will be missed by all. Visitation will be held at the Guenette Funeral Home on Sunday, February 10th from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 p.m. Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 2:30 p.m. at the Kapuskasing Community Church with Reverend James Ko officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Sensenbrenner Hospital CT-Scan Fund would be greatly appreciated.

John laisse pour pleurer sa perte son épouse bien-aimée Jennifer (Nordahl), ses enfants Colin (Bianca Mercuri) de Toronto; Ryan de North Bay et Andrew (Lynne Boudreau) d’Ottawa; ses soeurs Anne Gauld (Ken) de Kapuskasing et Kate Ballantyne de Williams Lake, C.B.; de même que sept petits-enfants : Emily, Hanna, Jack, Molly, Sarah, Quinn et Kaia.
John était davantage heureux de passer du temps avec ses petits-enfants, assurant que ceux-ci avaient toujours des grignotines en grande quantité. Il aimait bien passer du temps à pêcher les eaux du lac Rémi et du lac Opasatika avec sa famille et ses amis. John anticipait toujours avec plaisir de jouer au bridge et une partie de cribbage aussi souvent que possible. John jouissait de la chasse et de passer du temps au camp de chasse à Reesor, assurant une bonne bouffe pour tous, et il passait plus de temps dans la cuisine qu’à la chasse.
John était un amateur passionné des sports à jouer du football pendant ses années au secondaire, et à jouer du curling jusqu’à la semaine de sa mort. John a représenté le Nord de l’Ontario au Championnat canadien de curling masculin en 1978, ayant joué également aux jeux Pepsi Juniors et Seagram’s Mixed avec son épouse Jennifer en 1973. John était bien présent dans la vie sportive de la communauté, à titre d’entraîneur des équipes de baseball de son fils et comme leur fervent supporteur au Palais des Sports.
John était une personne aimante, plein de compassion, qui était reconnu comme bon aidant qui manquera à tous et à toutes. Les visites auront lieu au Salon funéraire Guenette le dimanche 10 février de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 21h. Le service funéraire aura lieu le lundi 11 février à 14h30 à l’église communautaire de Kapuskasing avec le Révérend James Ko comme célébrant. Comme témoignage de sympathie, les dons au fonds d’achat d’un tomodensitomètre de l’Hôpital Sensenbrenner seront grandement appréciés.
