We regret to announce the sudden passing of Mabel Brown, at the age of 87 years, on Wednesday, December 20, 2023, at Lady Minto Hospital in Cochrane. Mabel was a friendly and generous person with a contagious laugh, who greatly enjoyed volunteering for various organizations over the years, most notably with the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation for several decades; the Kapuskasing Curling Club; the OPP Veterans’ Association; the Ontario Housing Board; the Civic Center Board; the Kapuskasing Rotary Club; the Royal Canadian Legion; and she was also President of the Connexion Support Centre. She was the recipient of a Distinguished Service Award which is a very prestigious recognition for outstanding volunteers. Mabel was well-known for being a hairdresser for 60 years; before that, she worked as a telephone operator. In her spare time, she enjoyed curling, cross-country skiing, going for drives, knitting, sewing, arts and crafts, playing games on her computer, playing cards, and she especially loved music.

Mabel leaves her children: Robert (Kirstine) of Prince George, BC, Brenda Leon (Terry) of North Bay, Christopher (Dawn) of Ottawa, and Treena Brown (Kevin McKinnon) of Kapuskasing; seven grandchildren: Robert Jr. (Laura), Taylor, Cole (Jennifer), Sarah, Connor, Wyntr (Joey), and Anthony; three great-grandchildren: Shanelle, Nathan, and Keira; as well as one brother: Ernest Cloutier (Elayne) of Myrtle Beach, SC. She will also be missed by her beloved cats: Bella and Chatah.

Mabel was predeceased by her husband, Robert; her parents, Arthur and Marie-Jean Cloutier, and two brothers, Ken and Johny.

Mabel will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. A graveside service will be held on Monday, June 3 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kapuskasing Cemetery with Father Sebastien Groleau officiating. The family would greatly appreciate donations to the Connexion Support Center or Animal Rescue Kapuskasing as expressions of sympathy. ©

Mabel était une personne amicale et généreuse qui aimait beaucoup faire du bénévolat pour différentes organisations au fil des ans, notamment la Fondation des maladies du cœur de l'Ontario pendant plusieurs décennies; le Club de curling de Kapuskasing; la OPP Veterans’ Association; la Commission du logement de l'Ontario; le Conseil d’administration du Centre civique; le Club Rotary de Kapuskasing; la Légion royale canadienne; et elle a été présidente du Centre Connexion. Elle a reçu la Distinguished Service Award, une distinction très prestigieuse qui récompense des bénévoles exceptionnels. Mabel était bien connue comme coiffeuse pendant 60 ans; avant cela, elle avait travaillé comme opératrice / téléphoniste. Dans ses temps libres, elle aimait jouer au curling, le ski de fond, les promenades en voiture, le tricot, la couture, l'artisanat, les jeux sur son ordinateur, les jeux de cartes, et elle adorait la musique.

Mabel laisse ses enfants : Robert (Kirstine) de Prince George, BC, Brenda Leon (Terry) de North Bay, Christopher (Dawn) d'Ottawa, et Treena Brown (Kevin McKinnon) de Kapuskasing; sept petits-enfants : Robert Jr, (Laura) Taylor, Cole (Jennifer), Sarah, Connor, Wyntr (Joey), et Anthony; trois arrière-petits-enfants : Shanelle, Nathan et Keira; ainsi qu'un frère : Ernest Cloutier (Elayne) de Myrtle Beach, SC. Elle manquera également à ses chats bien-aimés : Bella et Chatah.

Mabel fut prédécédée par son époux, Robert; ses parents, Arthur et Marie-Jean Cloutier; et deux frères, Ken et Johny.

Mabel reposera au Salon Funéraire Guenette le samedi 30 décembre 2023, de 14h à 16h et de 19h à 20h30. Un service funéraire aura lieu le lundi 3 juin à 11h00 au Cimetière de Kapuskasing avec Père Sébastien Groleau comme célébrant. La famille sera très reconnaissante de dons au Centre de support Connexion, ou au Refuge d’animaux de Kapuskasing, comme témoignages de sympathie. ©
