Obituary for Norma Hemenway

Norma Hemenway
We regret to announce the death of Norma Hemenway on November 23, 2017 at the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital at the age of 88 years. Norma was an avid reader who also loved the outdoors and in her spare time, enjoyed fishing, hunting, and bird-watching. Her favourite bird was the hummingbird and she made sure the numerous feeders were always full in her yard. In her younger years, Norma could only be described as a free spirit. As a teenager, she had various jobs around town such as helping the milk man with his horses and delivering telegrams on her bicycle. In her 20s, she hitchhiked out west with a friend, first stopping in Terrace Bay to work, then continuing to Alberta. She decided to move back to Kapuskasing, where she married John and had her family. She spent the rest of her years being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.

She will be greatly missed by her children: Brenda Reid (Ross) of Kapuskasing, Jo-Anne Blake (Rod) of Smooth Rock Falls, Patricia Hemenway (Stephane Rivet) of Stittsville and Robert Hemenway (Cindi Sharp) of Kapuskasing; her six grandchildren: Toby Reid, Shelly Reid, Jennifer Reid, Angela Lachapelle, Marisa Blake and Anna Rivet; and one great-granddaughter: Veronica Doonan; as well as two sisters: Ruth Bartlett of Midland and Jean Blanchard of North Bay. She was predeceased by her husband, John; her parents, Hector and Anna Blanchard; two brothers, Robert and Martin Blanchard; and two sisters: Catherine Quirt and Doris Nakashoji.

Norma Hemenway will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Monday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, November 28th at 10:30 a.m. at St. Patrick's church with Father Hervé Sauvé officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Smooth Rock Falls Hospital, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. ©
