Obituary for / Nécrologie pour Patrick Doran
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Patrick Bert Doran, at the age of 84 years, on Thursday, March 17, 2022, at Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing. Pat was a teacher and was known simply as “Mr. Doran” to generations of students at Kapuskasing District High School, where he taught for 30 years. He had life-long connections with the students he mentored.
Pat loved Kapuskasing and he loved the North. He grew up along the North Shore of Lake Superior where his father, Peter, and mother, Bertta, operated garages in Rossport and Schreiber. Pat needed to work hard to change his own destiny. With his parents’ support, he attended Albert College in Belleville and later graduated from the Ontario College of Teachers in Toronto.
Pat met his wife, Mary Lou, in Terrace Bay. They were married for 59 years and spent nearly all of those years in Kapuskasing, forging friendships that are still strong to this day. The family would like to thank all those who have offered their support, love and friendship over the years.
Pat enjoyed carpentry and refurbishing old cars in his large workshop. One of Pat’s greatest loves was the cottage he never stopped building at Remi Lake. It was a labour of love and he enjoyed seeing others enjoy it. More than anything, he loved his family and he loved animals, especially dogs.
Pat will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary Lou; children: Cathy Cappadocia (Ron) of North Bay and Lori Doran (Ryan MacDonald) of Ottawa; as well as two grandchildren: Amy and Daniel Cappadocia. Pat was predeceased by his daughter, Patty, and his parents.
A memorial service for Patrick will be held at a later date. Cremation has taken place at the Guenette Crematorium. The family would appreciate donations to Animal Rescue of Kapuskasing or the Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation as expressions of sympathy.
C’est avec grande tristesse que nous annonçons le décès de Patrick Bert Doran, à l’âge de 84 ans, le jeudi 17 mars 2022, à l’Hôpital Sensenbrenner de Kapuskasing. Pat était un enseignant, connu tout simplement comme “M. Doran” par des générations d’étudiants du Kapuskasing District High School où il a enseigné pendant 30 ans. Il a établi des relations à vie avec les élèves qu’il a encadrés.
Pat adorait Kapuskasing et il adorait le Nord. Il a grandi le long de la côte nord du lac Supérieur où son père, Peter, et sa mère, Bertta, exploitaient des garages à Rossport et Schreiber. Pat a dû travailler fort pour changer son propre destin. Avec l’appui de ses parents, il a fréquenté Albert College à Belleville, puis a obtenu son diplôme de l’Ordre des enseignantes et enseignants de l’Ontario à Toronto.
Pat a rencontré son épouse, Mary Lou, à Terrace Bay. Ils étaient mariés depuis 59 ans et ont passé presque toutes leurs années à Kapuskasing, tout en tissant des amitiés qui demeurent fortes encore aujourd’hui. La famille aimerait remercier tous ceux qui ont offert leur appui, leur amour, et leur amitié au fil des ans.
Pat aimait faire de la menuiserie et réparer de vieilles voitures dans son grand garage. Un de ses plus grands amours était son chalet au Lac Rémi, qu’il n’a jamais cessé de construire. Ce fut un travail d’amour et il aimait voir les autres jouir de son chalet. Plus que toute autre chose, il aimait sa famille et les animaux, les chiens en particulier.
