Obituary / Nécrologie

We regret to announce the death of Ted Thompson on Monday, August 24, 2020 at Sensenbrenner Hospital in Kapuskasing, surrounded by his loved ones at the age of 71.
Ted had a much-loved career spanning over 30 years with Cochrane & District Social Services Administration Board retiring in 2011 as District Manager. Kapuskasing meant the world to him and he gave back by serving on municipal council for numerous terms, Chair of the Sensenbrenner Hospital Board and the Remi Lake Cottage Owners Association and many other committees. Ted was happiest when he was with his close friends whether it was travelling, golfing, watching sports, or receiving them at the infamous Al-K-Hal cottage, but mostly to share stories and laughter (over a pint). He was a true Toronto Maple Leafs’ fan. He loved music and the Rolling Stones was his favourite band, having seen them numerous times in concert. His happy place was at the cottage on Remi Lake where of late he enjoyed the simple things in life like watering his flowers while having a Heineken, his daily happy hour sitting in his Adirondack chair overlooking the lake, again with a Heineken and cribbage games with Louise. He is survived by the love of his life, Louise(Taggart) and his son and buddy Cole of Kapuskasing, his mother, Winnifred of Scarborough and three siblings, Harry of Scarborough, Heather Thompson-Pyle (Vic) of Toronto and Steve (Barb) of Pickering. Ted also leaves behind his many special nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father Ray, and two sisters; Betty Jeffrey and Cathy Fiddes. A celebration of life will be held at a later time when family and friends can gather to reminisce and honor a true friend and gentleman. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the North East Association for Community Living or the Canadian Cancer Society would be greatly appreciated. ©

Louise,
My sincere sympathy. I knew Ted in high school. He was always one step ahead of the teachers and was outspoken. He was the guy who asked "Why?" and was a champion of fairness and transparency. That cost him a few detentions . . . and before you knew it we would have a CLASS detention! I wanted to be less of a dweeb and more like him. God bless you Ted, then and now
