After a long and very full life, in his 93rd year, Rune passed away peacefully in his sleep on December 31, 2013. He was surrounded by his family while in the care of the wonderful staff at North York General Hospital in Toronto. Rune was predeceased by his wife, of 60 years, Mary Lovquist (nee Jossul). He leaves behind their 6 children: June, Debbie (George) Bryan (Joanne) Randi (Gaetan), Paula (Allan) and Steena (Euan), 10 grandchildren: Nicole (Ian), Michelle, David, Shauna (Chris), Lyndsay (Will), April, Erika, Scott, Aubrey, Amber,and 1 great-grandchild: Cooper. Rune was predeceased by his siblings: Marion, Inga, Ove and Kurt, as well as his fishing buddy and much beloved son-in-law Rene Mick.

Rune was born in Karlskrona, Sweden and came to Canada as a child with his family. As a veteran after the war, he, by chance, drove through Kapuskasing, Ontario, spotted Mary in her bright red raincoat and never left town. They raised their brood of children there, teaching them how to be self-sufficient and to value family. He had many fond memories of the men and women he worked with during his 40 year career with Spruce Falls. Rune was valued for his innovative thinking and ability to manage both people and construction/engineering projects.

Rune moved to Toronto shortly after Mary passed away to be closer to his children living in Toronto. He lived happily in his retirement home apartment, fiercely independent right up to the end. He made some very good friends in The Donway and always said that the people there took very good care of him.

Rune will be remembered for his love for family, dancing, music, woodworking and fishing. His family has no doubt that Rune is right now dancing a graceful waltz with his beloved Mary, smiling and ever so proud.

Family and friends will gather at the Guenette Funeral Home on Saturday, May 31 beginning at 1:30 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Valerie Isaac officiating. Interment to follow at the Kapuskasing cemetery where Rune will be reunited with his beloved Mary.

Rune fut prédécédé par son épouse de 60 ans, Mary Lovquist (née Jossul). Il laisse pour pleurer sa perte leurs 6 enfants: June, Debbie (George), Bryan (Joanne), Randi (Gaëtan), Paula (Allan) et Steena (Euan); 10 petits-enfants : Nicole (Ian), Michelle, David, Shauna (Chris), Lyndsay (Will), April, Erika, Scott, Aubrey, Amber et un arrière-petit-fils, Cooper. Rune fut prédécédé par ses sœurs et frères : Marion, Inga, Ove et Kurt, de même que son compagnon de pêche et gendre bien-aimé, René Mick.

Rune est né à Karlskrona (Suède) et émigra au Canada avec sa famille alors qu’il était enfant. Un ancien combattant (Seconde Guerre Mondiale), le hasard a fait qu’il passa par Kapuskasing, Ontario, aperçu Mary vêtue de son imperméable rouge écarlate, et il y demeura à jamais. Ils élevèrent leur famille ici, leur enseignant comment être auto-suffisant et tenir la famille à cœur. Il gardait de nombreux et chers souvenirs des hommes et des femmes qu’il a côtoyés pendant ses 40 années de travail à la Spruce Falls. Rune était fort apprécié pour ses pensées innovatrices et sa capacité de gérer autant les gens que des projets de construction et d’ingénierie.

Rune a déménagé à Toronto peu après le décès de Mary afin d’être plus près de ses enfants. Il jouissait de la vie dans un appartement au Donway, une maison de retraite, où il a maintenu son autonomie fièrement jusqu’à la fin. Il a lié plusieurs fortes amitiés au Donway et il a toujours maintenu que les gens prenaient bien soin de lui là-bas.

On se souviendra de Rune pour l’amour qu’il portait envers la famille, la danse, la musique, la menuiserie et la pêche. Il ne se fait aucun doute dans sa famille qu’en ce moment même Rune danse une valse gracieuse avec sa chère Mary, sourire aux lèvres et toujours si fier.

La famille et les amis se réuniront au Salon funéraire Guenette le samedi 31 mai à compter de 13 heures. Un service commémoratif suivra à 14 heures avec la Révérende Valerie Isaac comme célébrante. L’inhumation suivra au cimetière de Kapuskasing où Rune retrouvera sa Mary bien-aimée.
