Obituary for Thérèse Guimond (Joly)

Thérèse Guimond passed away peacefully on May 4, 2019 at the Sensenbrenner Hospital, Kapuskasing at the age of 90 years.
Thérèse (Terry) is survived by her five children: André Joly and Richard Joly of British Columbia, Nicole Vergara (late Chito Vergara) of Squamish, British Columbia, Monique Brewer (wife of Cliff Brewer) of Sudbury and Jules Joly (companion of Carole Ratté) of Kapuskasing. She is survived by one sister Cécile Berry (Rolly) of Belleville; ten grandchildren: Kristine, Nicole, Sheena, Richard Jr., Miguel, Renée, Pascal, Stéphanie, Heaven-Lee and Marc Jr. as well as many great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her son: Marc Joly, four siblings: Hélène Bonhomme, Roger, Conrad and Armand Guimond and her long-time friend Gil Pitt. At the age of 45 she achieved her lifelong dream of becoming a nurse and worked at St. Joseph’s Hospital and then at Laurentian Hospital when it opened. During her time on earth, Thérèse was active in many different ways. She was a lifetime member of the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies’ Auxiliary in Chelmsford, as well as being involved with Big Sisters; participating in theatre in Sudbury; member of a consulting committee at Cambrian College; volunteer with the Canadian Special Olympics; volunteer during the 1996 Measles Elimination Campaign; host to two children with the Children of Chernobyl program; as well as a member and volunteer with the Adult Centre. She enjoyed dancing, cross-country skiing, belly dancing, reading and, of course, watching hockey, figure skating and keeping up to date with current events.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 7 from 7 – 9 p.m. at the Cooperative Funeral Home, Lasalle Blvd, Sudbury, ON. The funeral service will be held at Ste-Anne-des Pins church on Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. with interment following at the Lasalle Cemetery. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Northern Corridor Children’s Fund (cheques only, mailed to Guenette Funeral Home, 108 Byng Avenue, Kapuskasing, ON, P5N 1X2) or the Sensenbrenner Hospital for the purchase of a CAT scanner would be greatly appreciated.
