It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of my beloved wife, Yvette.
She had the brightest smile, the sunniest disposition and eternal optimism. She touched the lives of so many with her kindness and her generosity; she will be missed by all of them, and more.
Yvette’s greatest joy came from spending time with her family. In particular, she doted on all her nieces and nephews that she looked upon as children of her own. She loved to cook and bake and was always happy to share anything she made in her kitchen. Yvette loved to travel and live in different parts of the country. She made friends from Halifax to Victoria to Iqaluit, and everywhere in between. She loved camping, fishing and nature. She loved and will be greatly missed by our dog, Boo.
Yvette is survived by her loving husband, Ian, of Kapuskasing; recently adopted daughter Gina Robinson of Newbury, U.K; her siblings: Al (Francine), Gerry (Gérard) (Mary), her other brother Gerry (Gérald) (Suzanne) and Claude (late Kelly), Deborah (Ron) and Patsy (Dave). She is survived also by brothers-in-law: Keith (Marisa), Richard (Jocelyn), Andrew (Karen), Frank (Tammy) and Gerry Côté; sisters-in-law: Marianne Green and Lee Cranton. Yvette also leaves in mourning so many cousins, including Christine Megson and Wendy Lynch both of the U.K., as well as numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces and grand-nephews, that there is not sufficient room or time in the day to list them all here.
Yvette was predeceased by her parents, Noël Carrière and Yvonne Bilodeau; one sister, Laura Côté; and two infant siblings; two sisters-in-law: Claire Hobbs and Jan Douglas.
To honour Yvette, please perform a small act of kindness, either to a person or an animal in need. If you are so compelled, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society, Diabetes Canada, the Sensenbrenner Hospital Foundation or the Health Sciences North Cancer Clinic in Sudbury would be greatly appreciated.
Finally, thanks to all the doctors, nurses, technicians, PSWs, clerks and receptionists who provided her with the utmost in care and compassion, tirelessly. Notably, we are grateful to Yvette’s family physician, Doctor Martin; oncologists Drs. Linford, Pearce and Ali of Sudbury; the nurses and staff of the active care ward; and the nurses and staff of the palliative care department. Special thanks to nurse Jess Hamilton, our niece, who was always there for us and who went out of her way to help. Also, thanks to all our family and friends for your help and moral support in getting Yvette through her journey. You all know who you are, and I thank each and every one of you.
Respecting Yvette’s wishes, she will be cremated. Her ashes will be placed in an urn and brought home to be with me and Boo.
