Arrested by a great man

It's not often where a guy can write his condolences about a man who arrested him. Yet here I am. I remember thinking as he led me out of my home in handcuffs in front of my family why he needed to cuff me. I was scared and seriously embarrased. He knew me. He knew my family. His daughter was in my brothers class I think. Why would he do this. About 5 years later I learned he was in Armstrong ( I think it was Armstrong) and being that I was in Vernon, I thought I would give him a phone call to say hello. He was quite happy to hear from me. After a nice coverstion I said to him before I go I have to ask why did you feel the need to cuff me that day. I could tell he was smiling when he said "I needed you to remember that moment. I needed you to remember not to do something stupid like break into a store a steal stuff. Have you done anything similar since?" Not a chance I replied. "Good. You were a good smart kid and I'm glad to know you are doing well". James was like a pitbull. He would never release his bite. He did his job the only way he knew how and it occurred to me as I hung up the phone how much he really cared for the people. He wanted to make a difference. He wanted us the criminal to remember what they had done. He wanted us to correct our paths. Was he to hard on those he arrested? No I don't think so. He just happened to be one of the best teachers I've had in my life. Thank you Jim. You made a difference. Rest in peace my friend and god bless. My sincere condolences to the family and friends.
