Bertta passed away peacefully at North Centennial Manor on April 21st just shy of her 100th birthday this July. Born in Finland, she came to Canada with her family in 1927 spending 2 years in Kapuskasing before settling in Kirkland Lake. She lived most of her adult years along the north shore of Lake Superior where she and husband Peter operated garages in Rossport and Schreiber. A hard working family, they eventually settled in Thunder Bay where she lived for 40 years and became an avid gardener. Her stories of early life in Canada and Finland were told over a cup of coffee and her Finnish pancakes were enjoyed by many. She is survived by one son Patrick (Mary Lou) of Kapuskasing, 2 granddaughters Cathy Cappadocia (Ron) of North Bay and Lori Doran (Ryan MacDonald) of Ottawa, 2 great grandchildren Amy and Daniel Cappadocia as well as one sister Eila Pilbacka of Kirkland Lake. She was predeceased by her husband Peter, 1 granddaughter Patricia, 2 brothers and 3 sisters. The family wishes to thank the staff at North Centennial Manor for their excellent and compassionate care. A graveside service will be held this summer in Thunder Bay. Elle laisse pour pleurer sa perte son fils; Patrick Doran époux de Mary-Lou de Kapuskasing, 1 soeur: Eila Pilbacka de Kirkland Lake; 2 petits-enfants: Catherine Cappadocia (Ron) de North Bay, Lori Doran (Ryan MacDonald) d’Ottawa et 2 arrière-petits-enfants: Amy et Daniel Cappadocia. Elle fut prédécédée par son époux Peter; 1 petite-fille Patricia Doran ainsi que 2 frères et 3 soeurs. Elle aimait jardiner et faire la cuisson. Un service aura lieu à une date ultérieure au cimetière de Thunder Bay. L'incinération a eu lieu au crématoire Hillcrest. Comme témoignage de sympathie, la famille sera reconnaissante des dons au manoir North Centennial, Kapuskasing. ©
