Obituary for Robert McKay

Robert McKay
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Robert McKay on November 9, 2015 at the age of 65 years.

Over the course of his life, Bob enjoyed volunteering his time, including, among many others, the ODAMR, Distress Line – Waterloo Region/KidsHelpPhone, restorative justice initiatives, Global Volunteer Network and the Bruce Peninsula Environmental Group.

An outdoor enthusiast, he took every opportunity to bike, hike, swim, kayak or cross country ski. Bob cherished family time, made a point of challenging the conventional beliefs of his family, friends and colleagues, and was a quiet champion of the underdog.

Affectionately known as “Grumpa Bob,” grandchildren were quickly becoming his greatest passion and pleasure.

He is survived by his loving wife, Margaret; his children: Matt McKay, husband of Kersti of Bracebridge, Kris McKay, husband of Pam of Cedar Park, Texas, and Johannah, wife of Dan Boucher of Kapuskasing; his grandchildren: Sarah, Eddie, Meghan, Madeleine, Amelia and Alice; as well as his siblings: Mary Pike of Montreal, David McKay of Ajax, and James McKay of Quebec City.

Bob’s family would like to sincerely thank the community of Kapuskasing for the tremendous outpouring of support and encouragement that has been shared since his death.

According to Bob’s wishes, a private family memorial was held. As expressions of sympathy, donations may be made to the ALS Society of Canada OR Kapuskasing-Hearst Victim Services. ©
