Obituary for Jacob Janzen

Jacob Janzen
It is with great sorrow that the Janzen family wishes to announce the passing of Jacob Janzen on Sunday, November 20th, 2011. He will be sadly missed by his sons: Christian Janzen (Mary Goodenough) of Toronto and Anchor Janzen (Darlene Berube) of Kapuskasing; his grandchildren: Wesley, Emily and Jacob, of whom he was all greatly proud of. He also leaves in mourning, his siblings: William “Bill” Janzen; Elizabeth “Betty” Radunsky, George Janzen (Alice) and Anna Peters (Henry) and many loving nieces and nephews.

Known to his many friends and relatives as “Jake”, he was born in Steinbach, Russia. At only two weeks old his family fled to Canada where he grew up in Reesor, Ontario just east of Mattice. In his younger years he worked in Southern Ontario on some of his uncles’ farms before volunteering for World War II and proudly serving his country. On his return, he worked over 40 years for Spruce Falls Power and Paper Company in Kapuskasing as a devoted employee before retiring in 1987. After working another few years for M.J. Labelle Co. Ltd. he decided to retire the hard hat for good.

Never one to really boast, he had a sharp memory for all his years of work and could recall details that would have you believe you were right there reliving it with him at that moment. He was also quietly proud of his Legion Service and his yearly “trooping of the colours” for his lost comrades; something he talked much less of.

Jacob Janzen will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Thursday from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held on Friday, November 25 at 11:00 a.m. in the funeral home Chapel with Reverend Jen Dresser officiating. As expressions of sympathy, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion or the Ontario Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
