It is with deepest regret we announce the sudden death of Gerald (Gerry) Sonier on January 6, 2011 at the age of 53 years. Gerry has left this earth having marked a special place in many people’s hearts. It was a rare occasion to be in Gerry’s presence without a good laugh. Gerry was employed as a welding inspector for the OPG Bruce Power plant in Port Elgin. He is survived by two precious daughters: Jessica Zeppa (Jason) of Sault Ste Marie, Paige Sonier of Brantford; five sisters: Shirley Tremblay (Denis)of Kapuskasing, Cécile Boucher (Bill) of Timmins, Lucille Dallaire (Denis)of Timmins, Mary Jane Sonier (Daniel Labbé) of Kapuskasing, Sharon Sonier of Timmins; three brothers: Fred Sonier (Madeleine) of Havre Ste. Pierre QC, Roger Sonier of Sept-Isle QC, Ronald Sonier of Thunder Bay. Gerry will also be greatly missed by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his parents: Arthur and Florence Sonier, brother Donald, nephew Michael Tremblay and sister-in-law Yvette Sonier.He enjoyed golfing and hockey. Gerry Sonier will be resting at the Guenette Funeral Home on Monday January 10, 2011 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm and Tuesday January 11, 2011 from 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM. The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 11th at St-Patrick's at 2:00 pm with Father Hervé Sauvé officiating. Cremation will follow at the Hillcrest Crematorium. As expressions of sympathy, donations to Kidsport Kapuskasing or the Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
