Darin and Politics

Ya know, I always thought Darin should have entered politics. The last couple of times I was up visiting I prodded him to take it under consideration. I think I was making head way with him on that notion but alas, it wasn’t meant to be. Politics is a twisted game but in my opinion Darin had all the attributes of a proper politician, the kind of politician that is sorely lacking in our lives. He was honest, fair, understood the game, how our political systems work, understood the numbers and had charisma in spades. We all knew how he lit up the room, how he easily made friends with perfect strangers but we also knew that he didn’t suffer fools gladly…and he never pandered to what was politically correct. He was logical and balanced about his thoughts on any given issue. Above all, he had a social conscience, a sense of fairness, something that is also sorely lacking in today’s political ilk. We need politicians like Darin. He would have been successful at any level, be it municipal, provincial or what I thought to be his proper place, at the Federal level. The guy was one of Kap’s brightest, funniest and fairest. Cruel fate has denied the community, maybe the province, maybe even the country of his qualities. And there it is. His sudden loss is ripping my heart apart. I miss my friend.
